Discover the authentic harbor in Svendborg

Svendborg has one of Denmark’s best-preserved harbors, where active shipbuilding, wooden ships, and maritime businesses still dominate the scene. The authentic character of this maritime town and industrial port is one of the reasons why people from Copenhagen are moving to Svendborg these days.

Guided tour with local stories

Along the way, your local guide will share stories about famous people and companies.
You’ll learn why the world’s largest container shipping company, MÆRSK, was founded in Svendborg. You’ll also be a bit shocked to hear about the conditions sailors faced 150 years ago, and how the widows of drowned sailors managed to get by. You’ll also hear the story of when the crane collapsed at the Svendborg Shipyard.

During the tour, the guide will share their thoughts on how Svendborg can maintain its identity as a maritime town, and if everyone’s up for it, we’ll take a break at the shipyard lakeand enjoy a beer at the water’s edge.

Denmark's best-preserved industrial port

See how history still lives on in the streets and at the harbor. In 2005, Svendborg’s harbor area was named "Denmark’s best-preserved industrial harbor". We don’t clutter the waterfront with residential buildings, and we strive to repurpose old port industrial buildings. You’ll find many exciting examples of this.

An intimate city walk, free of tourist traps

Karen is a very knowledgeable and engaging guide; she is well-prepared and brought her beautiful city to life with her lively and humorous presentation. She had no trouble answering our many
questions. We’d love to come back and highly recommend Karen for other group tours.
